Crick throws four scoreless, Heston duels Taijuan Walker

Giants No. 1 prospect Kyle Crick made his rescheduled start Sunday morning for the Richmond Flying Squirrels after having his originally scheduled outing pushed back due to his early departure from last week's game with back tightness. Crick threw 84 pitches in a scoreless, four-inning outing and gave up two hits and three walks. The showing was typical of Crick, who has struggled since being drafted with command, but has shown the ability to get out of jams frequently. In 2014, he's struck out 104 hitters in 86.2 innings but walked 55.

Fresno Grizzlies: 26-year-old righty Chris Heston had a showdown with Mariners top prospect Taijuan Walker, with Walker holding a slight advantage. Walker was practically unhittable, striking out 13 Grizzlies while allowing just three baserunners in seven innings. Heston was impressive, as well, striking out eight over seven, two-run innings. Heston took the tough-luck loss as Fresno lost 2-1. Heston's last five outings have totaled these numbers: 35.2 IP, 25 H, 6 ER, 7 BB, 25 K, 1.51 ERA, 0.90 WHIP.

Other Notable Performances: Salem-Keizer right-hander Ethan Miller threw eight strong innings in the team's fourth straight win coming out of the all-star break. He gave up one run on five hits and no walks while striking out eight.

Austin Slater is maintaining his .500 batting average as a Volcano with two more hits last night. He's collected 21 hits in 42 at-bats, including four doubles.

—GreenJackets reliever Luis Castillo is on a nice run of late, striking out 21 in 13.1 innings during his last 10 outings. He has four walks and a 1.35 ERA over that stretch.

Elliott Blair has nine hits in 21 at-bats since being promoted to Richmond. He collected two of the nine last night in a four-RBI night.

Box Scores: Fresno, Richmond, San Jose, Augusta, Salem-Keizer, AZL Giants
