Arroyo continues to slug in Salem-Keizer

Christian Arroyo hit just his fifth home run in 47 games with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes on Saturday night, but it was his third in his lat six games. In a string of eight games starting on August 3, right before the team's all-star break, Arroyo has collected 14 hits, including six doubles and three home runs. He has also driven in 16 runs over the eight-game surge. Arroyo entered the game with a .448 slugging percentage with the Volcanoes, but he has posted a .725 mark since August 3.

Arroyo, despite describing himself as more of a "gap-to-gap" hitter, displayed a bit of the power we are seeing now last season in the AZL when he led the league in slugging with a .511 mark in 209 plate appearances. The high percentage came mostly from his 18 doubles and five triples as he cleared the fence just twice in rookie ball.

The San Jose Giants traveled to Stockton to face the Ports and proceeded to explode for five home runs, with two coming off the bat of Brian Ragira who now has 14 on the season. Daniel Carbonell hit his second career dinger, and first since arriving to the California League. Tyler Horan clubbed his fifth since joining San Jose, but brought his season total to 20.

—San Jose catcher Ben Turner had a four-hit night, and also drew a walk.

—Grizzlies third baseman Chris Dominguez hit his 20th home run of the season. He is now just one shy of his career high, which he set back in 2010 with the Augusta GreenJackets. The Louisville product also had 101 RBIs that season. Dominguez has 73 in 2014 with Fresno.
