One would expect a good hitter with raw power to move from the South Atlantic League into the California League and see his batting average and slugging percentage climb. Tyler Horan already managed to put up impressive numbers in both categories in 100-plus games in the pitcher friendly league in which the Augusta GreenJackets play. The left-handed corner outfielder had 22 doubles, five doubles, and 15 home runs before being assigned to San Jose, which all added up to a .481 slugging percentage — eighth best in the league. Now, in 54 at-bats in a San Jose uniform, Horan is slugging .705 thanks to three doubles and six home runs.
Much like Matt Duffy, who thrived in both Augusta and San Jose in 2013, I see Horan in Richmond to begin the 2014 season.
—Hunter Strickland had another walk-less outing. The right-hander still hasn't allowed a walk since June 27.
—Giants' 25th-round pick Byron Murray is starting his pro career on a positive not in the AZL. He picked up his fourth double nine games on Sunday along with two other hits to raise his average to .303.
—Blake Miller collected three hits for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, upping his average to .326 through 50 plate appearances. Miller was promoted to Richmond from San Jose at the end of July after batting .299/.354/453 in his first four months in Advanced-A ball.
—Juan Perez homered in each of Fresno's doubleheader games on Sunday. There's no doubt he's finding it easy to hit for both average and power in the Pacific Coast League, as he's posted a .329 average and .529 slugging in 38 games.
