Dominguez homers again, Blach struggles

Fresno Grizzlies third baseman Chris Dominguez hit six home runs in July, and continued that right into August with his 17th homer of the year, and second in as many games. Dominguez, who has been recently playing a good amount of shortstop, had four hits on Friday night.

Adam Duvall went 2-for-5 with a double and Guillermo Quiroz had a three-hit performance.

Richmond Flying Squirrels: San Francisco's No. 6 prospect Ty Blach had one of his less impressive outings in an otherwise stellar 2014 season. On Friday night, he gave up six earned runs on 10 hits and two walks. It's the second consecutive poor outing from Blach, as his last two starts have totaled 10 earned runs in 11.2 innings along with 19 hits. His ERA is still a respectable 3.46 through 20 starts.

San Jose Giants: Nick Vander Tuig made his first start since being transferred to the San Jose Giants. The right-hander, who's been pitching for both Augusta and the AZL in 2014, was not making his first San Jose appearance, however, as he made one spot start for the Giants in 2013.

Vander Tuig was solid on Friday night, earning a win while managing to keep seven hits and a walk over five innings to just one earned run. He struck out two, throwing 48 strikes in 69 total pitches.

Other Notable Performances: Stanford product and Giants' eighth-round pick Austin Slater went 3-for-4 with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. He has 13 hits in 30 plate appearances since joining the team.

—The Augusta GreenJackets shut out Kannapolis backed by six shutout innings from last year's third-round selection Chase Johnson. Johnson didn't surrender a walk while allowing five hits and striking out five. Luis Castillo, Ray Black, and Jake Smith each pitched an inning to preserve the shutout.
