Heston throws shutout, Blackburn deals again

Fresno Grizzlies right-hander Chris Heston had his best outing of the 2014 season, but also continued an impressive streak of outings starting in mid-July. Heston went the distance on Friday night, shutting out the Nashville Sounds and allowing only five baserunners.

Heston has a 1.74 ERA dating back seven starts, and a 3.30 mark throughout the year.

Flying Squirrels ace Clayton Blackburn backed up his career-best outing last week with another gem on Friday for the Giants' Double-A affiliate. After going eight scoreless and striking out a career-high 11 on August 16, Blackburn pitched seven more shutout frames, extending his scoreless innings streak to 15.

—Salem-Keizer Volcanoes righty Dusten Knight struck out eight in 3.1 relief innings.

Brian Ragira picked up two more hits, raising his August average to .364. He is batting .255 overall after a rough start in April and May where he averaged below .220 in both months.
