San Francisco's eighth-round pick Austin Slater was quickly moved to Salem-Keizer after two games with the rookie team, and has been a hitting machine ever since arriving in Oregon. The Stanford product had two doubles on Sunday night, upping his hit total since joining the Volcanoes to 17 in just eight games.
As a junior, Slater led the Cardinal with a .341 batting average while also leading the team in hits, doubles, and triples. He was All-Pac 12 and owned a .993 fielding percentage starting 59 of 61 games as an outfielder and occasionally an infielder. Slater has played the majority of games in right-field since joining the Giants.
Fresno Grizzlies: Left-hander Mike Kickham had a more-than-solid outing on Sunday evening, pitching seven innings allowing eight hits and no walks combined with one earned run. Kickham's 2014 season has been a success in that he's lowered his ERA by a full point since last season to 3.67 through 23 starts.
Other Notable Performances: Undrafted first baseman Chase Compton went 4-for-5 with the AZL Giants, upping his average to .425 through 12 games. Compton, 22, is 6'2", 210 pounds out of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
—Submarining right-hander Tyler Rogers pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the San Jose Giants, striking out three and allowing two hits. His 2.43 ERA in 55.2 innings as the Giants' workhorse out of the bullpen has been impressive, as has his relatively even splits against both righties and lefties.
