Horan contributing immediately in San Jose

San Francisco Giants eighth-round pick in 2013 out of Virginia Tech University, Tyler Horan, was bar none the bulk of the Augusta GreenJackets offense for four months before earning a promotion to San Jose. He led the team in hits, doubles, triples, and home runs on his way to a .273/.350/.481 line in the South Atlantic League. Now, in just four contests with his new club, he's slugged two home runs, including a bomb on Tuesday night among a single and a walk.

Horan's presence in the San Jose lineup will be crucial as the team pushes for a second half championship, by which they currently trail Stockton by five and a half games.

AZL Giants: Big left-hander Matthew Gage pitched four impressive innings for the rookie team, striking out eight in his outing and allowing just one unearned run to cross the plate. The 2014 10th-round pick from Siena College has thrown in 10 games, totaling 21.2 innings and a 1.25 ERA.

The team's big hitters all pitched in with extra baggers as Daniel Carbonell, Aramis Garcia, Dylan Davis, and Hector Mercedes all contributed a double to the team's 11 hits. Carbonell has a .303 average through eight games.

Other notable performances: Elliott Blair went 3-for-4 with a double in his second start since joining the Richmond Flying Squirrels from San Jose.

Dan Slania, recently transferred from Augusta to Richmond to replace Cody Hall, who is on the disabled list due to fatigue, got into his first game Tuesday night, throwing 18 pitches and 12 strikes to get two hitters out.

Mario Lisson went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run for the Flying Squirrels. The 30-year-old from Venezuela is this year's Mark Minicozzi for the Richmond club.

Box Scores: Fresno, Richmond, San Jose, Augusta, AZL Giants, DSL Giants
