Duggar belts two home runs, Jebavy breaks out of slump

BOX SCORES: SAC / RIC / SJ / AUG

An under the radar prospect that many Giants minor league followers were excited about in 2016 was Steven Duggar. He made the San Jose Giants opening day roster and has started every game in the corner outfield since. Sunday in San Bernardino, he showcased the bat and power people have been anticipating. His multi-home run game capped out at 4-for-6 day, along with a double and four RBI as the Giants scored 11 runs on 16 hits facing the Angels' No. 8 prospect Jake Jewell. The game puts Duggar at four home runs and two doubles on the year, which places him tied for second in home runs and second in slugging percentage (.813) in the California League.

Ronnie Jebavy, another fast outfielder who made the jump from Salem-Keizer to San Jose, opened the season in a 2-for-26 slump that included eight strikeouts. A three-hit night on Sunday may help him emerge out of the hole, but at the very least, certainly gets him out of the below-.100 basement.

OTHER NOTES

— Former second-rounder Martin Agosta has held the opposing team scoreless in four long relief appearances, pitching 2.1 more untouched innings during Sunday's game against Inland Empire. He stands at 7.1 innings, zero runs (earned or unearned) and just four hits and one walk.

Matt Gage, after giving up seven runs on nine hits in his season opener, toned it down with a shutdown outing for Richmond on Sunday. Going 5.2 innings, Gage allowed no runs on three hits and a walk.

Cory Taylor struck out eight in four frames for the Augusta GreenJackets. He hasn't allowed a run during his first two starts.
