The River Cats snapped a five-game losing streak with a 12-1 blowout of Las Vegas. The team, having lost 10 of their first 12 games, racked up 21 hits, six being for extra bases, as Chris Stratton pitched with a sizable lead for the majority of his start. Ryan Lollis, who is now batting over .300, went 2-for-5 with a triple while Grant Green provided three RBI via a double and a solo home run.
Stratton was not off to a promising start for 2016, giving up 18 hits and 12 runs in his first 11 innings. He tamed those numbers on Tuesday, going 5.1 strong with just four hits, two walks, and one run.
Gustavo Cabrera followed up a 2-for-4 debut with a walk-off single on Tuesday, pushing the GreenJackets to a 5-4 victory. The addition of Cabrera to the lineup could prove to be just what the team needed to complete an already talented group. Michael Santos built on his stellar start, moving his strikeout-to-walk ratio to 12:1 with 6.1 solid innings.
Santos flashed an above-average CB with good depth/downward action but spotty. CH improved from past looks. More feel, better fading action.— David Lee (@David11Lee) April 20, 2016
Another thrilling finish took place in Lake Elsinore where Johneshwy Fargas gunned down what would have been the tying run on a throw from left field to home plate. The San Jose Giants won 5-4, led by a three-RBI night from C.J. Hinojosa.
— Steven Duggar continues to rake for San Jose, going 2-for-5 with a triple to up his average to .350. Chris Shaw, meanwhile, continues his climb out of the opening-week slump. Two more hits for him has his average near .300 at .297.
— Tyler Beede was pushed to 88 pitches in his third start of the year, and struck out six while walking three in five innings. Ray Black entered in a 4-4 game in the ninth, and though he struck out the side, he gave up the go-ahead run.
