Parker hits three home runs, River Cats score 16

BOX SCORES: SAC / SJ / AUG

Jarrett Parker is testing out the ultimate slump buster: a new month. Entering the game, Parker was slashing .171/.284/.300 and striking out 38 percent of the time. On Sunday, the first day of May, he clubbed three home runs and drew a walk, totaling six RBI.

For the second straight game, the River Cats pounded out double digit runs to beat up on the Salt Lake Bees. No franchise records were set, but Sacramento won 16-6 with 18 hits on the board, a day after scoring 14 runs on 24 hits. Miguel Olivo, who has his average up to .339 now, went 4-for-5 with a double and a home run, while Ryan Lollis, batting .321, went 3-for-6 with two doubles.

OTHER NOTES

Jordan Johnson continues to be very good in Class A+ with the San Jose Giants. Through four starts, the Elk Grove, Calif. native is still averaging less than one baserunner per inning (0.833 WHIP) while striking out 7.1 per nine innings. On Sunday, Johnson went six, giving up three earned and striking out seven. He has the second lowest WHIP in the California League among starters, and his seven punch outs and 16 swinging strikes were both season highs.

Chris Shaw is clearly seeing the ball well right now. He has struck out just four times in his last 36 plate appearances, while drawing five walks and posting a line of .484/.556/.935 over the same time frame.

— It's been a bit of a struggle thus far in Augusta for the Giants' fourth-round pick in 2015, left-hander Mac Marshall. He's averaging more than a walk per inning, compounded by his 4.1 inning, six walk outing on Sunday against Greensboro.
