Santos escapes serious injury after being hit near head

BOX SCORES: SAC / RIC / SJ / AUG

Augusta GreenJackets right-hander Michael Santos was hit near the head by a line drive during the third inning of Friday's game. He appeared to be okay, and reportedly wanted to stay in the game, but was obviously taken out of the game for precautionary measures.

Santos was in the middle of another nice start, having thrown two scoreless innings with no walks issued. He has walked just five batters all year, and only one during his last 21.1 innings pitched. Among Giants' minor league starters, Santos owns the lowest FIP at 2.27, slightly lower than Phil Bickford's at 2.35. More on FIP here.

The bullpen entered to finish the remaining seven innings of the game allowed two runs, one unearned, on just three hits and three walks. Tyler Cyr pitched four innings of one-run ball while striking out four. He has 46 strikeouts in 40 innings so far in 2016. Connor Kaden struck out four in two almost perfect innings (one walk) while Caleb Smith earned his fifth save of the season.

OTHER NOTES

— Richmond's game against Harrisburg was postponed due to rain after making it into the third inning. Kyle Crick was not pitching well, surrendering four runs on six hits and a walk through just 2.1 innings.

Jason Forjet struck out a career-high 11 batters in his seven impressive frames as San Jose defeated Visalia 8-4. The win brought the two teams to the same record, tied atop the California League North Division at 33-21. Ronnie Jebavy and Steven Duggar both homered, with Duggar picking up two more hits in the process and Jebavy making this diving catch in center field. Jebavy has come a long way since his horrid April, where he batted .177 and struck out 32.6 percent of the time. Jebavy now has his average up at .240 and is striking out 11 percent less often since May 1.
