Reynolds makes pro debut, Davis homers again

The San Francisco Giants' top pick in June's draft made his long-awaited pro debut on Friday night in Eugene, Ore. as a member of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Bryan Reynolds, the Vanderbilt junior, batted third and played center field for the Volcanoes, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout, two groundouts, and a fly out. He did, however, flash his defense with an outfield assist to throw out a runner attempting to advance to third base.

Heath Quinn and Ryan Kirby both went 2-for-4 to lead the Volcanoes offense. Quinn had one double while Kirby had two. Mac Marshall made his third start of the year for Salem-Keizer and continued to reveal his struggles throwing strikes. He's walked 12 batters in 12.2 innings, and 44 in 49 innings in his pro career.

San Jose hit three home runs in a 10-5 victory in Visalia, including the second home run in as many games for Dylan Davis since he was promoted to the west coast. His three-run shot was one of two, as Daniel Carbonell brought home three, as well, in his first of the year. Jonah Arenado's solo shot was also his second in as many games, bringing his total to nine on the year.

OTHER NOTES

Ray Black, though still walking an alarming amount of batters, has given up just one hit in his last 9.1 innings. With Friday night's scoreless inning, Black now has 18 strikeouts, one hit, and six walks over the stretch. He still maintains a ridiculous 15.3 strikeouts per nine innings this year, but is walking on average almost one per inning.

Miguel Gomez recorded three more hits last night, and two of them came from the right side. It makes him 9-for-his-last-14, and 26-for-his-last-53 (.491). His .369 average is second highest in all of the minor leagues, and highest in the South Atlantic League by 12 points.

Tyler Rogers debuted as a Sacramento River Cat and pitched a scoreless ninth inning in some mop-up work. He's now gone 10 innings since walking a batter, and has just one in his last 17 innings.
