Blach strikes out 10 in highest total since 2013

BOX SCORES: SAC / RIC / SJ / AUG / SK / AZL

June wasn't the best month for left-hander Ty Blach, but he sure finished on a high note. In six June starts, opposing hitters averaged .292 and slugged .494 off Blach, culminating in a 4.70 ERA. But last week, Blach threw a shutout that featured zero walks and six strikeouts to close out June, and followed it up Saturday night with seven innings and ten strikeouts. It's the first double-digit strikeout performance from Blach since the 2013 season in San Jose, where Blach finished the year with 117 strikeouts to just 18 walks.

Blach, who is walking slightly more than his usual amount in 2016, has 16 strikeouts to zero walks over the last two outings. He's averaging 1.4 walks per nine innings since May 10 (11 starts), which is almost a full walk lower than his overall season average of 2.2.

OTHER NOTES

Jonah Arenado was going to be expected to pick up some offensive slack after the departure of the San Jose Giants' top-three batting threats, and he has certainly done just that. Over his last three games, Arenado's power has come to light with two home runs and four doubles, including two in Saturday night's game.

Bryan Reynolds played center field and batted fourth in the lineup in his second pro start and struck out three times in a second-straight 0-for-4 night.

— All four Giants' minor league full-season starting pitchers (Ty Blach, Andrew Suarez, Jordan Johnson, and Matt Solter) combined for 27 strikeouts and zero walks in Saturday's outings.

— And lastly, check out this birthday triple from now 19-year-old Lucius Fox. He has a nice 12-game stretch going that includes a .382 on-base percentage and a 10.9 strikeout rate — far lower than his season average of 21.8 percent.
