Jones returns to action, collects two hits

Infielder Ryder Jones was activated from the disabled list on Sunday and was inserted into the River Cats lineup playing first base and batting sixth in the order. It was his first experience in a Triple-A ballgame for the 22-year-old after his original debut was delayed because of a hit-by-pitch taken to the head in a preseason exhibition game. Jones went 2-for-4 with two singles in Las Vegas Sunday afternoon, and should play a good chunk of first and third base moving forward.

Jones, aside from an improved strikeout rate in 2016, had mostly underwhelming numbers for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, including well-below average marks like .688 OPS and 88 wRC+. That could all change for the better with a set of 400-500 plate appearances in the Pacific Coast League.

Austin Slater, who drew a walk in 11.9 percent of his plate appearances in San Jose/Richmond last season, waited quite a while to take his first free pass to first base in 2017. He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and his first walk of the year on Sunday.

Sandro Fabian is heating up a bit in Augusta. He picked up his fourth double of the year on Sunday along with a single, going 2-for-4 to up his average to .238. Unfortunate, though, are his early-season rates of 2.2 BB% and 24.4 K%.
