Myers goes seven strong for second time in three starts

BOX SCORES: RIC / SJ / AUG

Right-hander D.J. Myers had it going in his seventh start of the year, pitching seven innings of one-run ball for the Augusta GreenJackets. It's the second time in his last three outings that Myers has thrown seven frames, doing so on April 26 at Lexington — a day after teammate Domenic Mazza was perfect.

Myers set a season-high in swinging strikes at 15, helping him to strike out six. He owns a 24.1 strikeout rate so far, which isn't anything to gawk at, but with a reasonably-good walk rate of 6.6%, it balances things out. Also note that Myers, in 58.1 innings with the AZL Giants in 2016, issued just five walks, culminating in a stellar 2.1 BB%.

Here's a look at Myers from his debut season in Arizona, just months after being selected in the 15th round out of UNLV.

OTHER NOTES

— Another update on Frandy De La Rosa, the player received from Texas for Clayton Blackburn. The good: 13.6 BB%, .209 ISO. The bad: 30.9 K%, 4 CS. The caught-stealing issue is previously noted, so that shouldn't come as a surprise. He was caught 23 times in 2016, while only successfully taking a base 19 times.

Sam Coonrod gave up a good chunk of hard contact Wednesday, but struck out eight in 4.2 innings thanks mostly in part to his sharp-biting slider.

— Chris Shaw played his third game in left field in a week. He's still crushing the ball, going 2-for-4 on Wednesday with a double. He's now rocking an isolated slugging percentage of .219. For more on Shaw's transition to left field, read this great column from Baseball America's Kyle Glaser.
