Shaw hits first home run in Pacific Coast League

The Sacramento River Cats have totaled 41 hits in three games in Reno, Nev. against the Aces, including 19 on Monday night. One of particular importance was left fielder Chris Shaw hittng a towering shot to straight away right field for his first career Triple-A home run.

Shaw also added a double, making it three in his first five games, and has only struck out twice in 22 plate appearances.

— Three more hits for Austin Slater made it five out of the last six games that he has recorded at least two hits. Dating back to May 11, a string of 78 plate appearances, Slater is slashing .400/.462/.629 with a 17.9 percent strikeout rate. His isolated slugging percentage for the season sits at .135, which is interesting because in nearly 90 more plate appearances in 2016 after he was called up to Sacramento, Slater posted a .208 ISO. The good news is he is trending up. He posted .093 in April and has increased it by 42 points since.

Jacob Heyward is Brandon Belt-ing in the South Atlantic League, as in if you're just looking at his batting average, you're likely not impressed. His strikeouts are high (28.7%) and his batting average is subpar (.230), but he's drawing walks at a 11.6% clip and hitting for decent power at .175 ISO. Like Slater, he's trending up. After OPS'ing .579 in April, he's pushed that number up to .741 on the season thanks to a great May.

— At 20-years old on a team not getting a ton of attention due to their general lack of offense, Kelvin Beltre is having a pretty impressive year. I think he's still on track for a mid-season promotion to San Jose. He's now approaching 400 plate appearances with Augusta, which is what he would have likely received if injuries didn't shorten his 2016 campaign. In comparing last year to now, a clearly healthy Beltre is walking at the same rate (about 7%), striking out almost 10% less often, and hitting for slightly more power (.169 ISO).
