Garcia clubs first extra-base hits since promotion

BOX SCORES: SAC / RIC / SJ / AUG / SK / AZL / DSL

Aramis Garcia entered his ninth game since being promoted to Double-A Richmond still without an extra-base hit. This was surprising considering the organization's top catcher owned a .225 ISO in 81 games with San Jose. But on Tuesday, Garcia belted two doubles and drew a walk to reach base three times.

Here's one of Garcia's two-baggers — an opposite-field gapper which brought in two of Richmond's three runs.

With the season winding down for Garcia and the rest of the Giants' minor leaguers, it wouldn't surprise me to see Garcia receive a second consecutive trip to the Arizona Fall League. Garcia still has less than 400 plate appearances this year, mostly due to the two weeks he missed at the end of April and higher number of days off. If all goes well, he's looking at a mid-season promotion to Sacramento in 2018, much like Chris Shaw.

OTHER NOTES

Mac Williamson hit two bombs in Reno on Tuesday, including this 430-foot missile to right-center.

— An update on Tyler Herb — the player-to-be-named later for Chris Heston. He made his seventh start since being assigned to Richmond and had his sixth consecutive going six or more innings. He has 2.91 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with an 18.5 K% during 43.1 innings so far.

— With two more doubles on Tuesday, Jonah Arenado now has 12 doubles over his last 17 games, giving him 29 on the season — one shy of the California League lead. Arenado has been seeing the ball exceptionally well over his last 25 games as he has totaled just 11 strikeouts in 110 plate appearances.
