At 32 two-baggers in 2017, San Jose Giants third baseman Jonah Arenado leads the Giants' farm system in that category by one over highly-ranked prospect Chris Shaw. Arenado's two doubles Saturday give him six over his last six games and 15 in his last 30 games, where he's slashing .372/.417/.603.
Arenado recently eclipsed the 1,000-plate appearance mark in his two full seasons with San Jose, and assuming he is assigned to Double-A Richmond to begin 2018, he'll have a chance to build upon this encouraging late-season surge.
It really began in May when Arenado hit successfully in 10 straight games and had 10 extra-base hits during the streak. In 80 games since May 20, he owns a .300 batting average with a .202 ISO and an 18.5 strikeout percentage. And more recently, in his previous 30 games, he's struck out in even fewer trips to the plate, posting an 11.4 K% over that stretch.
— Logan Baldwin's on-base streak came to an end on Satuday at an even 30 games. During the run, Baldwin boasted a 1.032 OPS thanks to eight doubles, two triples, and three home runs among 47 total hits.
— After a brief slump, lasting six games, Heliot Ramos is back to doing what Giants fans hope he can do for the big-league club in three to five years. After going 1-for-17 with nine strikeouts, Ramos has hits in eight straight games, totaling 12 with three doubles, one triple, and three home runs. He also has four walks and three stolen bases, giving him 10 steals in 34 games.
— Strikeout machine John Russell had six days off and returned Saturday for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes with two more in four batters faced. He now has 33 punch outs in 18 innings (70 batters faced) for a 47.1 K%.
— Dan Slania dealt for the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Saturday in his best outing of the season. Reaching a game score of 80, Slania pitched a doubleheader-shortened shutout, allowing just two singles and a walk in seven innings while striking out eight.
