Jalen Miller hits first home run of season

BOX SCORES: SAC / RIC / SJ / AUG

In the organization's only victory of the day, the Augusta GreenJackets beat the Rome Braves 7-6 with second baseman Jalen Miller hitting his first professional home run. In spring training, Miller hit a home run as well, but this solo shot on Sunday was his first in a non-exhibition game. The 19-year-old Miller hasn't had the best of starts through about 100 at-bats in Class-A, considered an advanced placement for the young Georgia high-school product. But Miller is striking out at a generally low 19 percent rate and with his quick hands and high contact rate, he should find his way above the .250 mark by season's end in a league where young hitters typically struggle.

OTHER NOTES

Dylan Davis raised his season walk count to 18, which is best in the organization and seventh best in the South Atlantic League. He's probably the best candidate to wind up in San Jose before season's end, and considering the struggles of Ronnie Jebavy, I wouldn't be surprised to see them swap at some point. Davis turns 23 in July and is slashing .316/.419/.582. Meanwhile, Jebavy is striking out in almost 30 percent of his plate appearances and is at a .188 mark through 101 at-bats.

— Clayton Blackburn gave up double-digit hits for the second time in three starts in a four-inning, five-run outing Sunday afternoon at Raley Field. He owns a 5.68 ERA through six starts and is averaging 12.8 hits per nine innings.
