After four outings with the AZL Giants, San Francisco's most recent first-round pick Tyler Beede has been promoted to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. The right-hander joined the team on Friday and could make his debut either Tuesday or Wednesday of this coming week.
Tuesday's spot in the rotation would be that of the rehabbing Keury Mella, who has now pitched four stellar rehab starts for the Volcanoes. With a bit of a logjam now in the Salem-Kezier rotation, it's possible Beede could begin piggy-backing starts with another pitcher, or someone could slide out of the rotation. Despite Mella's brilliance, it's not likely the top prospect will return to Augusta during the 2014 season.
Beede pitched well in the Arizona League, refraining from giving up a run until his fourth appearance. He totaled 8.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and four walks, though six of those eight hits came in his final start.
Considering Beede's experience as a collegiate pitcher, he could wind up in San Jose to begin the 2015 season should things go well in Salem-Keizer, as well as during Spring Training.
Here is how Beede looked during his professional debut back on July 31.
