As a weekly reminder of who's doing good things down in the minors, Giant Potential will name a "Prospect of the Week" every Thursday afternoon, along with a few honorable mentions, highlighting the best of San Francisco Giants hopefuls. For week three, it's San Jose Giants third baseman, and the son of an 18-year MLB veteran, Jose Vizcaino, Jr.
JOSE VIZCAINO, JR.
- Age: 22
- Hometown: La Jolla, Calif.
- Height/Weight: 6'2", 220 lbs
- Draft: 2015, 7th round
- College: Santa Clara
- Key Stats: 12 H, 2 2B, 11 RBI
The San Jose Giants were an offensive force over the past seven days, scoring an average of seven runs per game, and reaching the double-digit mark in runs three times. Jose Vizcaino, Jr. accounted for 26.2 percent of the 42 runs batted in by the Giants over the six-game stretch, and batted .480 in the process. Vizcaino went 12-for-25 with two doubles and a home run, while playing three games at third base and two at designated hitter.
Vizcaino, Jr., who is of course the son of former major-league infielder Jose Vizcaino, has yet to really display the type of power he showed up in Salem-Keizer in 2015, where he slugged .457 in 201 plate appearances. A number of San Jose hitters are just beginning to tap into that power, and as the season moves along, and the games get warmer and dryer, expect Vizcaino's power numbers to increase. Note that his current total of one home run on the season is flawed in that he hit another homer during the April 8 game that was suspended before becoming final, so technically that stat doesn't count to his overall numbers yet.
Vizcaino has been sure-handed with the glove thus far, making zero fielding errors at third base while bascially splitting time at the corner with Jonah Arenado. He has made one throwing error, however, dropping his fielding percentage to a still respectable 95.7 percent through 11 games.
(*Please disregard the title of the first video. Despite MiLB labeling it a Chris Shaw home run, rest assured, it's definitely Jose Vizcaino, Jr.)

- OF Dylan Davis: 8 H, 2B, HR, .400 AVG
